Gynaecological pap smears, taken during one menstrual cycle. They show the squamous epithelium mucous membrane of the vagina.  

Döderlein flora: the healthy micro flora of a woman of childbearing age (i.e. not during pregnancy, whilst breastfeeding or after menopause).

Epithelium: cells that form a protective layer that protect us from our surroundings. Here in red-blue and pale orange. Consist of

  1. nucleus which carries the DNA;
  2. cytoplasm: the semifluid substance of a cell that is external to the nuclear membrane.

Leucocytes: White blood cells, involved in protecting the body. Strong proliferation can be a sign for infection. Here free-floating blue points.
