I've often found that photographing people actually makes me not see them, as I'm busy looking at the light around and on them, the interplay of colours and textures, the composition of the frame. 2 by 2 started as a reaction to the social distancing measures of 2020 that suddenly separated us from each other, and called me to slow down, and look.
I begun asking my loved ones about their experience of these turbulent times. Then we sit together (yet at least 2 metres apart), in silence, whilst I look at them. Not with the goal of finding a perfect composition, but with a curiosity of – who is this creature here? Only once I feel like I've seen them, do I press the shutter.
Almost like an afterthought, the closing of a process of opening up.
