The Lower Ninth Ward
The Big Nine Social and Pleasure Club held its 25th Anniversary Parade in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans on December of 2015. The event was dedicated to "Our angels who are gone but not forgotten!". A ritual to honor ancestors, the street parade transforms public space into a communal celebration and ritual of emotional expression. Thousands of people took to the streets in formation with the brass band to summon joy, dance, and jazz music.
