From above, the scarred land almost feels detached, less one remembers that the rubble and blackened soil once held a home, a school, a bakery.

These images are from Kharkiv, Ukraine during the summer of 2022 and were made for IPSOS and The World Bank Group as the visual component of reconstruction needs assessment.

The final report was published in August and cited widely, as in this New York Times article that details the estimated $349 billion it will cost to rebuild Ukraine, a number now certainly higher.
