Since I have started to photograph my mother, in 2012, I got more involved with the issue of mental health. Through our history, Brazil has seen a slow evolution on the legislation regarding the rights of people with mental illnesses and the infrastructure available to receive those in need. Take Her Seriously is composed by portraits of people who have lived with invisible diseases or have been hospitalized in psychiatric clinics throughout their lives. Some of them were asked to write a letter about how they feel about themselves. Ongoing.
Desde que comecei a fotografar minha mãe, em 2012, me envolvi mais com questões relacionadas a saúde mental. Na nossa história, o Brasil tem vivido uma lenta evolução na legislação sobre os direitos das pessoas com transtornos mentais e a infra-estrutura disponível para recebe-los. Leve a sério o que ela diz é composto por retratos de pessoas que vivem com doenças invisíveis e que foram hospitalizadas em clínicas psiquiátricas em algum momento da vida.
