Charles Maberry poses for a portrait outside of the George R. Brown Convention Center Tuesday, August 29, 2017. He evacuated from the CE King neighborhood near Tidwell and Beltway 8 when flood water rose to one inch below his windows. He is now staying at the shelter in the Convention Center. "When the hurricane came, I was not taking it serious. But man, I lost a lot, for real, I lost everything. . . all of the old pictures, I lost cars, I lost it all. Now I am down here with nothing. At first, there was no way out. Ever time I tried to walk outside, the water pushed me down or pushed me back. I climbed on top of my truck and waved at the helicopter, but they did not save me. They had elderly people that needed help. So, I started to walk out into the water and someone came and helped me on a boat. Now I'm down here, smiling like this here. I am feeling good. I am still here, I am still alive. That is a blessing." Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 storm, made landfall on the Texas coast near Corpus Christi Friday, August 25, 2017. It is the largest hurricane to hit Texas in decades and high rainfall continues to cause flooding in Houston, Texas. Photo by Katie Hayes Luke
