Sand Fire, July 2016

Photos originally published as part of daily coverage in the Santa Clarita Valley Signal

The Sand Fire broke out on July 22, 2016 near Sand Canyon Road and Highway 14 in Santa Clarita, north Los Angeles County.
What started as a small blaze near the highway in the Santa Clara riverbed quickly spread across the Metrolink tracks and up into the Angeles National Forest -- terrain too steep for foot crews and trucks to access quickly, and the fire spread to nearly 40,000 acres before its spread was contained.
