ParentDISABLED is a documentary short that examines the life of the filmmaker and their mother, an individual with an acquired disability. This documentary explores the world of a visually impaired retiree through observational footage that looks at disability culture and social connectedness, along with the relationship between mother and adult child. In watching this film, I want the viewer to experience and relate to the challenges of someone with vision loss, and consider what it is like to live with a hidden disability. I want to dispel misconceptions about parents with differences, and create a narrative of interdependence.
