Private Story
Ida-Virumaa 2
In the European Union, Estonia is one of the country producing the most CO2 per capita. Most of this emission comes from the Ida Virumaa region and its oil shale mining industry. In June 2020, Estonia approved the European green deal which should lead it to carbon neutrality by 2050. This decision will most certainly impact the region, whose economy is largely based on its oil shale-rich subsoil.
This ongoing work is a subjective portrait of the region through the prism of its oil shale industry and culture. It is an encouter with those who are shaping the region at the landscape, economic and cultural levels.
