Ce documentaire rend hommage à Arte Xávega, une pêche traditionnelle pratiquée tout le long de la côte centrale du Portugal. Cette pratique locale remonte à la conquête musulmane de la péninsule ibérique. Elle est aujourd’hui pratiquement éteinte en raison de la pêche industrielle qui risquent à court terme de vider les océans. Guidée par le désir de donner de la visibilité à des populations absentes du paysage médiatique, j’ai choisi de m’intéresser au quotidien de ces hommes et de ces femmes dédiant leur vie à la fureur de l’océan.

Arte Xávega is an ancient fishing tradition practiced all aver the central coast in Portugal. In our days, this cultural practice is almost extinct. This documentary plays homage to the fishermen and women that very often sacrificed their lives to the fury of the ocean.
