Julian Busch is a photojournalist with a focus on assignments and long-term projects. He studied history and Islamic studies at the University of Hamburg and Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the University of Applied Sience in Hanover. Before moving to Kabul, Afghanistan in 2022, he was based for three years on the Island of Lesvos, covering Migration towards Europe. He has been regulary working on assingment with DER SPIEGEL, DIE ZEIT, GUARDIAN, stern magazine and WOCHENZEITUNG. Besides his work got featured in Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, Al jazeera, taz am Wochenende, Weser-Kurier, Shz magazine, stern magazine and profil. He has been working with NGO's such as GIZ and Sea-Watch as well. In 2016 Julian Busch has been recipient of the »netzwerk recherche e.V« fellowship and worked together with Paul Lovis Wagner on a longterm project about refugees in greek detention centers. In 2021 he has been shortlisted for the Felix Schoeller Photo Award. Julian speaks German and English and gets by in Farsi/Dari.
