Jaime R. After watching in horror the news that James Byrd Jr. a Black man had been dragged to death by three White racists in the town of Jasper, he knew he had to photograph the KKK rally that was headed to Jasper in support of the three men accused of the heinous murder. He answered a newspaper ad for a staff photographer in a small newspaper in South Dallas. The Jasper photographs made an impression on the managing editor and was offered the job.After being a staff Photo Editor, Chief Photographer and Staff Photojournalist at several newspapers, he began freelancing for Reuters, and covered the Ebola scare in Dallas, the destruction of the community of West after a fertilizer explosion flattened part of the town, photographed Henry Kissinger among other assignments. Became a contract photographer for Zumapress, and continues freelancing in Texas and the surrounding area. He is a member of Diversify.photo and Visura.co He has been a NPPA member for close to 20 years.Graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in English Literature from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (CAAM)   Studied Photography at The San Francisco Art Institute, The Academy Of Art College in San Francisco and De Anza College in Cupertino California. He is married and has one son. Interested in History, Sociology, Anthropology, American Politics, Race, Minority and Civil Rights.
