Against the tide

78% of the sea turtles have plastics in their stools or digestive tract. This leads to malnutrition or even death. Just in the Mediterranean Sea, there are between 1.000 and 3.000 tonnes of plastic. Against the tide is a story about CRAM Foundation, a project formed by volunteers that promote the protection of sea turtles.

The turtle Julen is recovering from a strong wound in a CRAM's pond. Julen was captured accidentally in February 2021, in Sant Carles de la Ràpita. The turtle had an injury caused by an unidentified object.

Laia is a CRAM volunteer. She removes from Guirgu, a new turtle, some parasites that the turtle has on the skin. Through the window, a group of kids and their teacher observe them. CRAM organizes guided for schools or families visits every day to raise awareness of environmental conservation.

The CRAM's veterinary, Albert, is cleaning an injury on Cemesa's shell. The turtle was rescued in May 2020 in Barcelona. It was covered with seaweeds, external parasites, and it had a crab in the cloaca. It means that it was ill. Cemesa had two wounds on the neck.
