Chronicles of the monsoon
Pakistan has been facing natural disasters for two consecutive years. Still reeling from last year's epic floods, Pakistan is battling monsoon rains again.
According to the local authorities more than 270 people have been killed, 200,000 made homeless and 4.2 million acres of agricultural land have been inundated. At least six million people have been affected with half a million having lost everything.
In Sindh province, 22 out of 23 districts have been flooded, and 16 need particularly urgent assistance. They have lost their homes, their possessions and their livelihoods.
Heavy monsoon rains during the months of August and September 2011 in Pakistan put huge loss of health and whole infrastructure including healthcare facilities.
Stagnant water in fields, villages and towns is alarming for water/vector born diseases in the form of outbreaks of epidemics and a big threat of mortality.
In 2010 the worst monsoon floods in living Pakistani memory since 1929, killed at least more than one thousand people, more than 20 million people have been affected and the uncontrollable and unpredictable water destroyed the infrastructures of the country.
