Shortly before midday on the 25th April, 2015, a severe earthquake struck Nepal, causing significant damage and injury. 9,000 people were killed and 22,000 were injured as a direct result and many tens of thousands were left homeless.

Seven year-old Lubina was playing with friends when the earthquake struck. She was buried beneath falling rubble, sustaining critical injuries to her legs and pelvis.

Discovered by a team from the NGO 'Splash' during an earthquake assessment visit to a school in Kathmandu, medical aid was organised and Lubina received emergency medical treatment from the Mercy Malaysia NGO and then from the staff at the Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital and was able to make a full recovery.
