The project is called:

ORIGEM – Retratos de Famílias no Brasil  (ORIGIN – Portraits of Families in Brazil).

It contains 51 B&W portraits of  families and its generations. It can be a father and son, mother and daughter, or even a 5 women generation portrait. It was published in August 2009 (Editora Auana), together with a exhibit at the Immigrant Memorial, in São Paulo. The exhibit has 30 portraits form the book.

Each image tells a story of the family. The stories are as much important as the pictures, because I beleive that photography nowadays, will only survive together with literature. And also, because I wanted to honor all the families in the book, they all have their own identities and they want to tell and share their story. Besides the generations, the portraits show the strengh of the DNA throughout the passage of time. You can see in some images, how the same chin or eyes is inherited in time thru many generations.

Another aspect of the book is the origin of many  of the families; most of them imigrants, that ended up choosing Brazil as a country to have and raise their family.

The book won 3rd place in the International Photo Awards, in the people category, in 2010.

The exhibit also was shown at the Encuentros Abiertos, Festival of Light, in 2010, in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) in Salta, Argentina, in 2011.
