For Those Who Died Trying - TO BE RELEASED ON NOVEMBER 16, 2018
Each movement is inspired by the narrative behind my photo essay For Those Who Died Trying, which pays homage to the 35 human rights defenders in Thailand who were killed trying to stop powerful interests that wanted to destroy their community's environment and infringe on their basic human rights.
The record label ATMA Classique will be releasing For Those Who Died Trying on November 16th. The world premiere recording is an epic 35-movement string quartet composition by Canadian composer Frank Horvat and performed by the Mivos Quartet, New York.
To produce this series I traveled across Thailand placing a portrait of each human rights defender at the place where they were murdered or went missing. Horvat used only the musical pitches/letters found in each victim's name, weaving their unique musical DNA into every movement of The Thailand HDRs.
You can preview and will be able to purchase the music here.
ATMA has established a sterling reputation around the world for recordings with superb sound quality. ATMA catalog now comprises more than 450 titles in many genres, from classical era to world music.
