Danielle A. Scruggs is a photographer,
visual editor, and writer based in Chicago, Illinois.


She has exhibited her work across the United States and has been an artist-in-residence at the Vermont Studio Center, Center for Photography at Woodstock, Byrdcliffe, and the Wassaic Project. She attended the New York Times Portfolio Review in 2018 and the Kalish Workshop for photo editing in 2018.

She currently works at Vox.com and Southern Foodways Alliance as a
photo editor. She was previously the Senior Photo Editor at ESPN's The Undefeated and Director of Photography at the Chicago Reader. Danielle is also the founder and editor of  Black Women Directors, an online resource highlighting Black women in film. She has
written about film and visual culture for Teen Vogue, Observer.com, Okayplayer.com, Chicago Reader, and The Triibe.

Danielle is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and is currently on the board of Authority Collective. She is also a general member of Diversify.Photo and a Women Photograph 2018-2019 mentor, groups working to create equity within the visual storytelling field.
