150 years 218 StgB is enough
Outside the Reichstag Building in Berlin various womens organisations and individuals came together as part of a German Nationwide protests on the anniversary of the 15 May. Marking the anniversary date Abortion was introduced to the penal code (criminal Offence) for Germany-150 years ago. In Berlin the womens groups encircled and embraced the Reichstag Building, Berlin in a chain link of supporters.
History-On 15 May 1871, the provisions on abortion were adopted in the first Imperial Penal Code. 150 years later abortions are still a criminal offence under §218 StGB. But the regulation in the penal code disenfranchises those affected and denies them a self-determined decision. 150 years of criminalisation have also created a social taboo. Together with 120 organisations the various Womens Groups demand: Abortion must be removed from the penal code!
