Here is the image used (kindly sent over to me by Matt Fearn-Picture Editor of The Daily Telegraph (UK) of the 75th commemoration of the Allied bombing of Dresden, Germany. Where the citizens of dresden link arms around the old city. There is a bit of a back story to this assignment that any other Photojournalist will of experienced at least once in their career. I arrived at Dresden early, set up my wire point in a Hotel that was 100 metres from the Alt markt and 300 metres from the Neu Markt where most of the events were to happen. I had a deadline of 6.30pm Uk time which because of the time difference gave me an extra hour in Germany. The human chain was billed to take place at 6pm (5pm UK time). All was going well took my pictures and headed back to hotel. Start downloading from my camera cards onto my laptop and there‘s no internet. connection. Check my phone and thats not connecting either. Speak to reception and they no nothing about it and merely suggest turning my devices off and on again! Slight panic sets in at this point and then the Daily Telegraph photographer (namely me) could then be witnessewd dashing off down the street from the hotel with lap top in hand to an adjacent McDonalds as they offer wifi connection. Fortunately wifi was working there and i managed to get my images away by deadline. So the lesson is- 'all the best plans can often go out the window.'!!! #dresen #germany #neveragain #alliedbombing #memorial #ww2 #photojournalism #editorial #reportage
