Coral Ortiz is a 23 year old aspiring director and screenwriter who hopes to create work that uplifts communities of color. As an Afro-Latina activist, she began attempting to make change within her community through her role on the State and City Board of Education. In these roles, she realized she desired to make political and social change through art. After her graduation speech went viral, she was given the opportunity to speak at TedxBoston and discuss the power of words over individuals' lives. She then went on to attend Yale as an undergrad where she recognized the power of film to tell the stories she often did not see represented in mainstream media. She now works as a Production Assistant for Director Thomas Allen Harris and was recently selected to study cinematography under award-winning Director of Photography Keith Smith. Coral is planning to have. her directorial debut in 2023, where she hopes to accurately represent the communities she is a part of.
