About
Thoko Chikondi is an award-winning Malawian photojournalist who is passionate about telling the stories of women and children through imagery.

Her work seeks to highlight their plight and suggest solutions to their problems. In the course of her work, she has exhibited her photographs on New Born Care in Malawi for UNICEF and the Ministry of Health.

In 2015, she spoke at TEDx Lilongwe about her photographs made during the worst floods to have hit Malawi in over three decades.

In September 2016 she received a Gender Links award for her photographs on empowering women in and through the media in the SADC region.

In 2016 Miss Chikondi was among 12 African Photographers selected to attend the World Press Photo East Africa master class, held in Nairobi Kenya.

Inspired by her journey, she established the Thoko Chikondi scholarship targeting disadvantaged young people who have no one to sponsor their education in Malawi Community Day Secondary Schools.

She is currently working as a part-time photojournalist for Nation Publications Limited.

In addition, Thoko Chikondi is a part-time photojournalism lecturer at the University of Malawi Polytechnic.
