Raicing with Traineras is a sport very common in the North of Spain. Traineras were originally used by fishermen to bring in the day’s catch of anchovies and sardines from sea to market, usually competing to sell their caught fish before others came in. Today, this historical tradition has become a major sport of coastal boat racing during the summer, all along the Costa of the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia. These photographs were taken with my Rolliflex camera in Moaña, a small town in La Ria de Vigo (Galicia) were the most popular teams are Meira and Tiran and have been competing for generations.
