To seek his re-election Donald Trump appealed to the construction of walls, to nationalism and to the salvation of the "American dream". But in the United States, migrant communities created different geographies and horizons than those promoted by the White House. Through five micro-stories, the authors of Welcome to Intipucá City, a project that tells the story of transnational migration between El Salvador and North America, show the expectations and struggles of those who live the world between two lands.

To say migrant is to think of women and men climbing on "The Beast"; adults and children running in the caravans that leave from Central America; or young people crossing rivers on a raft to get closer to the United States. That is the narrative of recent times, a narrative that imposed the American dream as an option, and only from the journey. This is a compilation of the other dreams: those of those who stayed, of the transformed dreams, or the dreams of return and retirement. Five protagonists, some from the place left behind, offer us a look at all the transformations that arise between the departures and the arrivals.

Text and photos: Anita Puchard-Serra, Jessica Ávalos and Koral Carballo, responsible for the project Welcome to Intipucá City.
