I studied journalism at the “Jose Simeon Cañas” Central American University in San Salvador, El Salvador and graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls, Massachusetts. I am currently working for Thomson Reuters (since 2014) based in San Salvador, El Salvador. Previously I worked for Agence France-Presse(2007-2014) and the newspaper La Prensa Grafica (2002-2007) in El Salvador. I have covered assignments throughout the Latin America region, North America and Asia.
My work has been published in different publications such as Politico Magazine, The New York Times, The Globe & Mail, Volskskrant, Stern, El Pais, The Washington Post among others. I have also received some awards and exhibitions. My “Truce among gangs” work was screened at the Visa Pour L’image festival in 2013 and I recently received an honorable mention in the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar 2019 contest, in the Feature category.
Almost my entire career has been focused on issues such as violence and gangs in El Salvador, as well as the phenomenon of migration in the North Triangle region of Central America. I am currently working on personal projects related to the culture and identity of the native peoples of El Salvador and the reality of young people in Central America. I really like working in film and other alternative methods.
