The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Haiti, launched since 2004, is approaching the end of a hare pitch towards the end of October 15. The Brazilian Army which runs the military component of MINUSTAH officially ended its military operations in the country on Thursday, 31 August.

A ceremony, parades, military honors, the Brazilian battalion, entrenched in their base at Tabarre, did everything to mark their departure. After a considerable withdrawal of its military contingent from the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTHA), Brazil, the largest contributor of troops with 40% of the troops of the peacekeepers, finally packed up.

The ceremony was attended by parliamentarians, members of the Brazilian Armed Forces High Command, the Brazilian Minister of Defense and the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti, Sandra Honore, and other dignitaries. After 13 years, the mission ends. No more soldiers will be seen in the streets and corners of the country after the deadline of 15 October 2017 set by the UN Security Council. It will be replaced by a new one: the United Nations Mission in Support of Justice in Haiti (UNMIT).
