Career Development: Past & Open Calls

Visura offers a diverse program of Scholarships, Grants, Consultations, and Open Calls to our members. In partnership with publications, brands and other leading institutions, Visura empowers content creators with opportunities to further their work, vision, and career.

Visura and United Photo Industries have joined forces to launch an open call to Visual Artists working in photography, film or any visual form of stories related to Global Climate Change. The work can focus on the following themes: 1) evidence; 2) causes; 3) effects; and, 4) solutions. This is an opportunity for one individual or collective working in photography, film or any visual form to receive over $10,000 in cash and in-kind prizes, including a $3000 cash prize, and an invitation to present a Solo Gallery Exhibition to shed a light on this pressing issue facing our planet.

An opportunity for two photographers to attend the VII Workshop in Beijing from November 18 to November 21, 2017. Hosted by Zone Foto, this four-day workshop with three VII photographers, Christopher Morris, Ed Kashi, and Sim Chi Yin in mainland China.

Visual stories depicting daily life including, but not limited to, climate change, gun control, the human condition, and culture - from anywhere in the world. We are particularly interested in the visual stories you are photographing where you live.

A scholarship to sponsor the workshop fee for one photographer Visura member to attend the Erotic Eye Workshopa two-day intensive workshop led by Donna Ferrato. The workshop will be held at Sant'Agostino during Cortona on the Move. The Participant will begin to develop his or her own unique erotic eye and learn how to delve into more intimate situations with their subjects.

A series of grants to support individual Visura members in furthering their career. Visura announces a $600 scholarship to sponsor the workshop fee for one working journalist, freelancer, photographer or video journalist to attend a two-day intensive workshop with James Estrin, the co-editor of the New York Times Lens blog, and Mary Virginia Swanson, Sarah Leen and Whitney Richardson in New York City. The participant will learn to select, sequence and publish visual stories with some of the key leaders of the industry.

Members also receive design and editorial support as well as consultations, specifically geared towards career choices pertaining to projects, negotiations, proposal writing, and strategy to get your work seen.

A unique merit-based competition to win an exclusive paid opportunity to publish your work with BuzzFeed News. The focus is on visual stories depicting life in Brazil over the past 2 years. Including the challenges the country is still facing and how Brazil has changed since the World Cup.

A unique merit-based opportunity for Visura photographers and videographers worldwide to participate in a projected exhibition curated by Scott Thode as part of Pro'jekt LA during the 2016 Month of Photography in Los Angeles. Through Pro'jekt LA, MOPLA's very own projection series, photography will be projected on walls and outdoor spaces of Los Angeles. The theme is connections.
