Maria is an independent documentary photographer, photojournalist and visual storyteller working on stories and projects related to social, political and environmental issues in Brazil and Latin America. She is currently finishing her Masters in Public Policy at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) while freelancing.

She investigates and dedicates herself to stories that look at human responses to social and environmental issues of our time through an ethical and empathetic lens, contemplating our relationship with memory and nature. Maria is a National Geographic Society grantee, member of Farpa, Women Photograph, Diversify Photo and The Everyday Projects.
