📍: BDC, 614 Courtlandt Ave, Bronx, NY 10451Join the BDC for a book launch with photographer Javier Álvarez as he presents his new photobook Predio. Alvarez’s project Predio shows the intimate relationships of 200 families living inside an abandoned building in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.From 2013 to 2018, Javier Álvarez visited this community for periods over two to three months every year, motivated by the social impact these illegal settlements have on modern society and how we look at our cities.Javier Álvarez is a Chilean documentary photographer focused on social issues. After pursuing a BFA in Photography, Javier worked as a freelance editorial and press photographer for agencies between Brazil and Chile. Currently, he is based in Brooklyn, NY, where he works as an independent photographer for media outlets and commercial clients and is a contributor to the Brazilian journalistic platform MidiaNinja.

Predio muestra las intimas relaciones de 200 familias que viven dentro de un edificio abandonado en la ciudad de Sao Paulo, Brasil.Entre el 2013 y el 2018, JAvier Álvarez visitó esta comunidad por periodos de dos a tres meses, motivado por el impacto social que estos asentamientos ilegales tienen en las sociedades modernas y las formas en las que vemos a nuestras ciudades.Javier Álvarez es un fotógrafo documental chileno enfocado en problemas sociales. Luego de obtener su BFA en fotografía, Javier trabajó como fotógrafo independiente para agencias entre Brasil y Chile. Actualmente reside en Brooklyn, NY, en donde trabaja como fotógrafo independiente para clientes comerciales y medios de comunicación, además de contribuir con la plataforma de periodismo brasileña MidiaNinja.
