President Trump’s immigration policies and the way he spoke about Latino immigrants stung Ms. Rodriguez and pushed her toward Joseph R. Biden Jr. But, she reasoned, it was the president’s administration that oversaw the delivery of the stimulus check that had arrived last spring, just as she had felt the pandemic might crush her. She chose Mr. Trump.
“I don’t like when someone talks about our people,” Ms. Rodriguez, 52, who is Dominican, said. “But when I saw everything he did during the first four months of the pandemic, I said to myself, ‘Maybe he changed.’”
