Several races, including one involving Representative Sean Patrick Maloney, the powerful Democratic leader, were still awaiting further vote counts.

As Democrats and Republicans anxiously watched results in the state’s most competitive congressional races hours after the polls closed on Tuesday night, a handful of New York City races featuring some of the delegation’s biggest names were declared.

Among the Democratic winners were incumbents including Representatives Jerrold Nadler, Hakeem Jeffries, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nydia Velázquez, according to The Associated Press.

Republicans held onto their lone spot in the city’s congressional delegation. Representative Nicole Malliotakis is projected by The A.P. to hold on to her seat in Staten Island and southern Brooklyn, fending off a challenge from Max Rose, a moderate Democrat whom Ms. Malliotakis unseated in 2020. The state Republican Party’s chair, Nick Langworthy, also won his race in a seat in the rural Southern Tier region.
