Fabiola, 22, is the only fluent English-speaking adult in the household. She is in charge of translating for her parents and helping her nieces with their homework every night. She also translates all masses her father gives when preaching to the English speaking part of the congregation.

Maria looks through the truck that holds watermelon seeds. She was unable to work for some time because of a pain she had in her uterus, which the family thought to be cancer. Luckily the results came back negative and she is taking medication.

Suleyma looks onto a pot of boiling pig skin as they get ready for a birthday celebration in honor of Maria, her grandmother. Workers from neighboring homes and their church were invited to eat, drink and celebrate on a Friday night at their home.

Dino immigrated from Mexico ilegally 15 years ago. Maria, Dino and Fabiola are all illegal and carry no documentation. They do not have social security and Fabiola just received her driving license. The grandchildren all have their papers and are US citizens.
