Alaskan Brown Bears Threatened By Mine "“ on National Geographic

Jan 19, 2020
My most recent project for National Geographic explores how Alaska's densest populations of brown bears – which are watched and beloved by millions of people around the world – are threatened by the proposed Pebble Mine.

Please follow the link to read the whole story of this complex issue, written by the talented Douglas Main. This story is close to my heart and my family, and I cannot emphasize enough how the preservation of this wild ecosystem is an issue of global importance. Thank you to National Geographic for supporting this work, my parents for the logistical support in Alaska, and to all the friends, editors, and people in the field who helped me along the way.

Alaska is the best place to see wild bears. A new mine could change that.
The proposed Pebble Mine threatens the wildlife of the Alaska Peninsula, home to the densest brown bear populations on Earth.
