우로보로스 Ouroboros 의 초상
사라져가는 신화를 카메라와 거울에 의한 ‘연금술’*을 통해 복원하는 작업
나는 끊임없는 시간의 반사체인 거울 속에서 움직이고,
카메라는 사진이라는 공간 안으로 나를 정지시킨다.
거울 속으로 도망가는 나와 사진 속으로 가두려는 또 다른 나의 공존.
거울을 통해 나는 자동적으로 환생하고, 사진을 통해 나는 의도적으로 박제된다
거울 속에서 흘러가는 시간은 무의식처럼 변신하여 사라지고,
사진 속에 가둬지는 공간은 의식으로 환원되어 나타난다.
그리하여, 거울은 사라지되 존재하는 신화를 만들고,
사진은 보이되 죽은 역사를 만든다.
거울과 사진, 시간과 공간, 의식과 무의식, 신화와 역사.
이 모순들은 서로 충돌하며 공존한다.
내 작업은 끊임없이 자신을 삼킴으로써 불멸하는 뱀, 우로보로스 신화를 역사로 끌어내는 작업이다.
이것은 흡사 공연되지 않은 1인 오페라를, 다큐멘터리 사진으로 이미지텔링하는 것과 같다.
살아있는 신들의 무덤, 바다를 일구는 영웅들, 가장자리의 무당, 함께하는 고독, 오해 받지 않는 두려움.
우로보로스의 초상은, 해체된 나 자신들이 만든 모순의 자화상이다.
*연금술 - 카메라와 거울을 직면하게 하여, 무한히 변신하는 나 자신의 사진을 생산하는 행위
Portrait of Ouroboros
Restoring the disappearing myths through ‘alchemy’* using cameras and mirrors.
I move in the mirror, the constant reflection of time,
The camera stops me in the space of photography.
Another coexistence of me running away into the mirror and trying to confine myself in a photograph.
Through the mirror I am automatically reincarnated, and through the photograph I am purposefully suspended animation.
Time passing in the mirror transforms and disappears like the unconscious,
The space confined in the photograph appears returned to consciousness.
Thus, the mirror creates a myth that disappears, but exists,
Photos make visible but dead history.
Mirror and photography, time and space, consciousness and unconsciousness, myth and history.
These contradictions coexist and collide with each other.
My work is to bring the myth of Ouroboros, a snake which survives forever by constantly swallowing oneself, into history.
This is similar to image-telling an unperformed solo opera as a documentary photograph.
