Jasmine Yeshan Zhang was born and raised in Xinjiang, China and now based in New York City. Growing up in a town where 92% of the population is Chinese Muslim, she developed interests in religions and subcultures. As a Han Chinese, she is always curious about the stories inside the hidden religious sites. Her works tell stories about different religious communities, presenting her interpretations about various cultures from an outsider's perspective.
Currently, she is a graduate student in Photography, Video and Related Media department at School of Visual Arts. She graduated from BNU-HKBU United International College in Zhuhai, China, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Journalism in 2018.
