WELCOME CLARY ESTES!

Visura is thrilled to announce the appointment of its first-ever contributing writer, photographer, and columnist Clary Estes.

Visura's new contributing writer for the soon-to-launch Reframe column, Estes, will produce a series of essays and articles featuring industry leaders, impactful media professionals, and innovative organizations shaping the media landscape and its current economic infrastructure today. Our goal is for this series to depict, evaluate and inform the landscape of visual storytelling and media today.

Clary Estes is a documentary photographer and writer, who works internationally on stories about the human condition. Her unique talents will help supplement Visura’s ongoing effort to empower its members and viewers with stories, essays, and interviews that illustrate and reflect on the current landscape of the media industry.

Estes received her Masters in New Media Photojournalism from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in 2013. She has worked both domestically and internationally in East Asia and Eastern Europe, as well as throughout the eastern United States on a variety of projects aimed at giving voice to those often overlooked.

Mentorship with legendary photographer, photo book editor, and teacher Joan Liftin

Clary Estes will be mentored by legendary Joan Liftin.

A photographer, photo book editor and teacher, Liftin was Chair of the Documentary Program at the International Center of Photography (from l988 to 2000) and the Director of the Magnum Photos library. She is the author of three photo books; Drive-Ins (2004), Marseille (2015) and Water For Tears (2018). Liftin has edited many ground-breaking photo books, including Mary Ellen Mark's Falkland Road, Charles Harbutt's Departures and Arrivals, Magnum's Paris (with Inge Morath) and Andrea Stern's Inheritance and Dog Days. In 2017, her archive was acquired by the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona.
