Visura’s Fall Speaker Series

Thursday, October 13, at 11 am EST via Zoom

Join documentary photographer Nick St.Oegger for the launch of Visura’s Fall Speaker Series this Thursday, October 13, at 11 am EST on Zoom. In conversation with Visura Associate Cameron Peters, St. Oegger will share insights into the Visura platform like how to create a catalog for licensing, and how to get work in front of new clients. He will also discuss his approach to visual storytelling about the environment and cultural heritage.

Working between Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Tirana, Albania, St.Oegger documents the intimate relationships between people and place. His long-term work in the Western Balkans examines the movement to protect the local rivers from hydropower dams. This year, The British Journal of Photography awarded St.Oegger the Decade of Change Award for two photographs from separate bodies of work in Albania.   The V-Speaker series highlights Visura’s community of visual storytellers, editors, entrepreneurs, and media professionals making an impact in their fields. Upcoming speakers will be announced on the Visura blog and social media throughout the Fall.

About Nick

Nick St.Oegger is a documentary photographer and writer whose interest in storytelling and the natural world was formed during childhood journeys with his mountaineer grandfather. His work explores the relationship between people and place, sharing stories that shed light on cultural heritage and the environment. For the last five years, he has worked extensively in the Western Balkans, following the campaign to protect the region’s rivers, which are under threat from wide-scale hydropower development. Preferring a collaborative approach to his work, he regularly partners with NGOs or local stakeholders to produce exhibitions or publications. In 2018 he partnered with Patagonia to publish a photo book about the Vjosa river in Albania, considered one of the last wild rivers in Europe, and has exhibited this work widely. He is currently based between Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Tirana, Albania.
