Photo Editor & Multimedia Journalist Maya Valentine Joins the 2020 Visura Mentorship Program

Visura is delighted to announce that Maya Valentine has joined the Visura Mentorship Program. Throughout the program, Maya will be mentored by editor and growth expert Rachel Abady in matters related to branding, social media, outreach, and communications, in addition to working closely with Visura founder Adriana Teresa Letorney.
About Rachel Abady
Rachel Abady is a startup founder, editor & audience growth expert. She's worked at ABC-TV, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, Vox Media, and more. After a decade in digital video, media, and journalism – Rachel left office life to launch MANNA Cooking—a recipe app—, launch a company, pursue standup comedy, and freelance. A native New Yorker, currently living in Brooklyn, Rachel is an editor and growth consultant for Visura.
About Maya Nicole Valentine
Maya Nicole Valentine is an Afro-Latina, Chicago born, female photo editor, visual storyteller, and multimedia journalist. Currently based in Columbia, Missouri, she is a photo editing intern at National Geographic. She is also completing the Visura Mentorship program.
Maya is a recent graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Multimedia Production and a minor in African American studies. Maya has also worked in multiple newsrooms around Columbia, MO, most recently for the Columbia Missourian, where she served as photo editor for two years. Prior, she worked for the Sick Cells, where she was responsible for managing the organization's outreach and social media platforms, communications with potential donors, as well as creating a monthly newsletter.
An aspiring photo editor and researcher—Maya is also interested in branding, social media, outreach, and communications.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Visura Mentorship Program is an educational opportunity for a Visura member to receive mentorship from Visura founders Adriana Teresa and or Graham Letorney and a key working professional leader in the industry, whose work is focused on an area of interest to the mentee. The goal of the program is to support the participant in furthering his, her, or them's career.
This opportunity is open to one or more aspiring professional(s) working in journalism, photography, film, art, tech, entrepreneurialism, and/or any new media role. In the past, this has been an invite-only opportunity. Visura will launch an open call for Visura members to apply to the Mentorship Program this fall. As of today, this has been an invite-only program while Visura Founder Adriana Teresa and Graham develop an effective solution that empowers its participants with a unique and valuable experience.
