Ecuadorian photographer Johanna "Johis" Alarcón joins the 2019 Fall Visura Mentorship Program in New York

Visura is delighted to welcome 27-year-old photographer and educator Johanna "Johis" Alarcón to the invite-only 2019 Visura Mentorship & Residency Program in New York. From October 16-23, 2019—Johanna will work directly with Visura founder Adriana Teresa Letorney. This mentorship includes accommodations, food, a Subway Ticket, and a $500 stipend. This program started in 2015 as an effort in part by Adriana Teresa to empower emerging visual storytellers worldwide. Past recipients include Gabriella Baez (Puerto Rico), Shuran Huang (China), Btihal Remli (Morocco), Etinosa Yvonne (Nigeria), Lisa Elmaleh (American).

During the mentorship, Johanna will receive advice and support on how to effectively further her skills, work, online presence, and career as well as build relationships and partnerships with media professionals and organizations.





About Johanna Alarcón



Based in Ecuador—Johanna Alarcón is a documentary photographer and educator. Her work focuses on social, cultural, human rights and gender-related issues.

A member of Fluxus Foto, Native Agency and PH Museum—her work has been published in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Bex Magazine, Lifestyle Magazine, Faction Latina, Community Press.

A Joop Swart Masterclass nominee, Johanna will also be attending the Eddie Adams Workshop during the month of October of this year. At the beginning of the year, she attended the 2019 New York Times portfolio review, which led to her work being published on Lens Blog.
