Opinion | How to register your photographs with the US Copyright Office

If you are a Visura member, we strongly encourage all Visual Storytellers to register your photographs with the US Copyright Office—especially before you submit them to any contest or open call, even one hosted by, and even if you reside in a nation other than the United States. It is easier to pursue copyright infringements in the US when copyrights are registered.

—Register your photographers
—Once you receive your certificate, keep it for your records.
—Send via mail (preferably) your registration information or copies of the certificates to yourself, agent, or agency.

The date of your copyright registration will be the date the submission is received in the US Copyright Office.
