COVID-19 pandemic in Iran (2020-2022)
For the first time, a novel coronavirus disease was diagnosed in Wuhan, China after people got pneumonia without any specific source on December 27, 2019. The treatments and vaccinations were not effective and the disease spread worldwide quickly. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended COVID-19 disease as a temporary name for this novel virus in January, 2020. The Iranian government announced the widespread coronavirus later than other countries, so the key moments were lost for quarantining and preventing a viral epidemic outbreak. Meanwhile, doubts and panics were spreading across the country besides COVID-19. Although using masks and disinfectants was accepted quickly, the number of identified cases and victims increased day by day. Upon reaching the first vaccines in the world, the Iranian government refused to accept these vaccines due to their distrust and decided to complete their own vaccines. On August 24, 2021, Iran had 709 coronavirus victims which was the most number of officially recorded victims per day in that time. After using Iranian, Asian, and European vaccines widely, the peaks and the bottoms of COVID-19 victims graph were controlled and day by day the number of victims decreased. Unfortunately, almost 147000 men, women, and children officially passed away due to COVID-19 in Iran until May, 28, 2023.
