Rebecca (Becky) Gaal is a photographer and creative strategist devoted to examining healthcare, environmental concerns and the inter-relationship between the two. She works on long-term and in-depth projects where she is able to watch the progression, or at times degradation, between medicine, nature and earth’s inhabitants. Gaal aims to show their interconnectedness to help foster better understanding and explore solutions.
Rebecca is a Fujifilm X Photographer, and a contributor at Tandem Stills and Motion. She leads the Special Projects & Strategic Partnership division for Visura.co and is the Creative Director at MAHERY (Madagascar Health and Environmental Research). Gaal is a member of Women Photograph, Her Wild Vision and a board member of the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network.
Gaal’s work has been published internationally in numerous outlets including American Scholar, Harvard University Center for the Environment, Adobe, Fujifilm, Planetary Health Alliance, National Geographic, (NIH) National Institutes of Health, (EPH) Environmental Health Perspectives, Rockefeller, Lancet, Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, The Seva Foundation, MedShare & Edible.
Gaal studied Social Innovation at the University of Cape Town, Environmental Science at the University of Oregon and received a BS in Public Health from American Public University. She also studied Painting at the Art Institute of San Francisco, completed a certificate program in Photojournalism at the Los Angeles Center of Photography and was an assistant to Nikon Master Vincent Versace.
Rebecca is focused on building relationships between individuals and companies to creatively address pressing issues through visual storytelling. When she is not on assignment, she is based in Ventura, California.
