(2020 - work in progress)
Lotus Flower is an intimate self-portrait project, showing my partner and I between togetherness and isolation during the COVID-19 lockdown in Germany. Within the stillness of quarantine, I found myself oscillating between a calming sense of inner peace, and a paralysing feeling of anxiety. Hopes and fears were fluctuating constantly. During these uncertain and frightening times, I found shelter and refuge in my partner’s embrace. Photographing us became a self-therapy, that helped me deal with the heaviness of the unprecedented situation.
A few days before the second national lockdown in Germany, I found out that I was pregnant with my first child. Amidst the uncertainty of the New Normal that the COVID-19 pandemic created, the only constant is the love for our daughter. She is the Lotus Flower that rose from the toughest environment, a ray of light and hope during times of death.
