Summary
Happy to share that some images from my project “A Sword & a Sari”, following South India’s female martial arts grandmaster Meenakshi Gurukkal, are currently on show at Studio Art Gallery in New Delhi, India. The group show is called “TRUTH OR DARE”, curated by Sandeep Biswas, and it explores changing roles of females in India, including work by photographers and film makers Anuradha Rana, Gulabi Gang, Nadja Wohlleben, Paromita Chatterjee, Puja Awasthi, Richa Bhavanam, Sahiba Chawdhary, and Sasha Rainbow.

“TRUTH OR DARE” - Exhibition Text written by Sandeep Biswas

“While the truth can be disguised, one must dare to question its intent.” Through the exhibition “ Truth or Dare”, we put together visual stories by a few women photographers and film makers, who have sensitively explored this changing world of women from various stratas of life in India. These are a few success stories of these handful of individuals who gathered immense strength and courage to fight, break out ,and create a change within their lives in a strongly conventional patriarchal society. These images depict a new modern era ofi gender egalitarianism and societal evolution, as a much desired achievement for humanity. Yet, a lot needs to be pondered upon before we call ourselves a fair and an evolved race.
