On May 9, 77 years were commemorated from the day that Germany signed its surrender and thus ended World War II. This date has been called "Victory Day" and for decades it has been celebrated in the republics of the former Soviet Union.

Amid tensions over the armed conflict in neighboring Ukraine and fearing that the attacks could spread to Moldova, the Moldovan government canceled official events for this date, to avoid propaganda acts of any kind. Despite them, thousands of people took to the streets of Chisinau, the capital, and went to the "Eternitate Memorial Complex" like every year to remember the tens of thousands of Moldovans and millions of other combatants who participated in World War II They lost their lives.

Fortunately, it was a day without incident, despite the fact that two opposing views of the country met in the streets, this is also Moldova, the contradiction between those who look back with nostalgia on the past times when they lived under the rule of the former Soviet Union and the that after the collapse and the entry of capitalist power look towards their western neighbors with the interest of being able to access their lifestyle and purchasing power.
