'Offseason' is an exploration of manipulated landscapes and purpose-built spaces that are inherently seasonal in their function, but photographed at a time of year when they are essentially dormant.

Much of my work explores how physical spaces yield evidence of the intentions and actions of the people who move through them, and in particular how those spaces breathe and take on their own 'personality' when no one is around, and often produce scenes of accidental and unexpected beauty. In 'Offseason' I want to push that idea further by seeking out spaces that, while still capable of serving their intended purpose, have built in to their existence a period of hibernation, often of considerable length.

The project is not about death or decay, but an exploration of the idea of seasonality, both natural and man-made. Many of these landscapes look familiar, except that the qualities that make up the natural seasons — light, temperature, weather patterns, plant life — are somehow off, lending the images an odd and otherworldly tone. Layered on top of that are the temporary manipulations that have been made to these places by humans for the period of their hibernation. Ultimately I want the viewer to be able to draw something of value and beauty from environments stripped of their intended purpose.
