Kipya Ki? - Meet the Curators
FOTEA is delighted to announce that emerging artists and curators, Trevor Mukholi (Uganda) and Ibrahim Azab (UK) have been selected to take part in our collaborative project ‘Kipya ki?’ in partnership with QUAD and FORMAT(UK).

Trevor and Ibrahim are collaborating together to curate photographers working with emerging forms of  photography from the UK and East Africa. With support from the teams at FOTEA (Uganda), FORMAT (UK) and New Art City (USA) to produce an immersive online multiplayer exhibition, focussed on showcasing emerging ideas and visions within contemporary photography, presented online at New Art City.

Independent curator Trevor Mukholi is based in Kampala, Uganda, is engaged in curating contemporary art through their interest in cultural experiences and accessibility to the Ugandan audience. They accomplish this, by creating and producing exhibitions, as well as collaborating on a variety of digital platforms, which allows them to critique their work further with local cultural production.

Ibrahim Azab, an artist and curator based in London, UK, creates sculptural and performance photography-based work on the ideas of process, perception, and information. This is the focal point of Azab's research and investigation into the relationship between the subconscious of reality, material and immaterial, and a hyper-consumer of visual culture. Their photography utilises both digital and physical intervention, with a focus on the movement of abstract and visual language information. They also delve deeply into the concepts of failure and how they can be represented through photographic mediums, playfully surfacing the act of seeing and unseeing as well as the phenomenological understanding of the surface.

Kipya Ki? is supported by the British Council Cultural Exchange programme, which supports cultural organisations, festivals, artists, and creatives between the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and the UK to create art, build networks, collaborate and develop markets and share artists’ work with audiences.
