ÇiÄŸdem Üçüncü is a German-Turkish photographer and performance artist based in Istanbul-Turkey and Germany. She has graduated from the University of Arts in Braunschweig in 2013, where she has been realizing various projects and exhibitions in the context of performing arts (intervention in public space), photography and cultural studies.
As the 3rd generation of Turkish migrants who moved to Germany in the late 70s, Üçüncü’s work has been mainly focusing on social and political issues surrounding ethnical and cultural minorities, migrants, refugees, women and non-binaries. Coming from an interdisciplinary arts background, ÇiÄŸdem Üçüncü is using different media with a strong emphasis on photography to tell the different stories she has been witness to. Üçüncü is currently living and working in Istanbul, where she has been a member of the NarPhotos photographers collective from 2014 until its disbanding in 2020. Since 2020, Üçüncü is a member of the newly-formed Artists Against Racism Collaborative (AARC). ÇiÄŸdem Üçüncü is also regularly conducting workshops on storytelling through photography as well as performing arts.
Üçüncü’s work has been shown in different exhibitions in Berlin, Braunschweig, Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Diyarbakir, North Carolina, China and has been published in Der Spiegel, Stern, Focus, Fluter, La Revue FEMMES PHOTOGRAPHES, Deutschlandfunkkultur, Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, Zeit Online, Open Society Justice Initiative, Les Jours, Einsichten - Das Forschungsmagazin, De Standaard Belgium, Praksis, Kontrast etc.
