Born in mainland China, Shuran Huang is an independent photographer based in Washington D.C. Her work focuses on family, traditions and culture.
Recently, she worked as a photography intern at National Public Radio. Before moving to Washington D.C., she finished a 6-month Visura Mentorship program in New York. She earned her master’s degree in photography from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She studied and graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in international journalism.
Shuran was the 2018 summer photography intern for The Buffalo News in Central New York. She won the grand prize in 2018 PDN Faces Portrait Photography Contest. Her most recent project, Strands of Love, was shortlisted for Siena International Photo Awards 2019. She was the West Award winner for Momenta Workshop 2019 Project New Orleans. She was selected by Magenta Flash Forward as one of the 100 international emerging photographers and in 2019, was accepted to the New York Times 2019 Portfolio Review and on the staff group of 2019 Northern Short Course. She was also selected to participate in Fast Forward: Women in Photo's Instagram Series #FFconversation. Shuran was a staff photographer for Syracuse University's independent newspaper, The Daily Orange, and multimedia news site, The NewsHouse.
