Richard has been a freelance photographer for over twenty years, working primarily in the advertising, corporate and editorial sector.
His images have featured in many photography books, he has exhibited widely and won numerous awards, but his real passion is Shifting Perspectives, which he has been curating since 2005.
Shifting Perspectives is an internationally touring photographic exhibition, which is concerned with all aspects of Down’s syndrome. In that time the exhibition has been to over 40 different venues in 12 different countries, as well as helping to launch foundations in Hungary and Turkey.
With thanks to GlaxoSmithKline and support from the Down’s Syndrome Association we now have a substantial body of work, which can also be viewed online and on an iPad.
Before Shifting Perspectives started there was little positive imagery surrounding Down’s syndrome. Many of the images would be of a medical or charity based nature and it should be noted that less than twenty years ago, images such as ours would neither have been made nor seen.
